Weave's Secret Spot
The Tale:
Weave, Ripple and I were looking forward to revisiting Weave's secret skinny dipping spot. This site boasts two secluded falls with inviting deep pools. The upper falls provides the perfect spot for a private swim especially if you have a guard dog as tenacious as Ripple. The day was hot and muggy and we were eager to plunge into the cold mountain water.
Sadly, our anticipation quickly turned into bitter disappointment. In the two years since our last visit, this site (once easily accessed yet very secluded) has fallen victim to the increasing development of private land in Georgia's mountains.
Where once was a rough dirt parking area at the head of an old logging road, stands one man's impregnable castle. A fenced gate forms the first line of defense. Snarling guard dogs patrol the inner fence line, and no less than 25 signs are posted: 21 proclaiming, "No Trespassing"; 3 stating, "Trespassers will be Prosecuted"; and one painted blood red that promises, "Trespassers Will Be Shot!"
We don't know how seriously to take this last one. The two shots fired that day were a good foot above our heads. Was this a warning or poor marksmanship? We didn't stick around to find out.
