The Tale: Part 3

"How many ducks do you think are in this house?", asked China as we sat down to dinner that night. After a great deal of speculation and several bottles of wine, it was decided that an accurate count was needed. Weave embarked on a systematic, room by room duck census.

The next morning, as I stepped into the shower, I called to Weave, "What is the official duck count?"

"One hundred twenty-two.", Weave replied.

"Add two.", I said, looking at the pair of ducks perched on the window sill in the shower stall.

The "Riverview" or "Duck House", as we came to call it, did have it's good points. Located only thirty feet from the river, the house had two decks, one on each of the two levels, providing perfect spots to sit and watch the river flow by. The kitchen was huge, with a long island counter and every modern convenience. The furniture was comfortable, the bedrooms large. If not for the over-abundance of hackneyed country clutter, this would have been the perfect getaway cabin.
